New Shoes

They say girls love shoes (I'll reference Carrie Bradshaw here, if I may). I'll admit I went most of my life only wearing sneakers and flip flops. Recently I've ventured into heels, boots, etc. This happened mostly after I got out of high school/college and was required to dress nicely for the office and began to be invited to "grown up" events that required more than jeans, sneakers, and sweatshirts. The pro to this is that now my jeans last longer, the con is that I own more footwear. If we're being honest I still don't wear most of the shoes I own, but at least I'm ready for any occasion (note to self: conduct a shoe purge after posting this entry).

Girls also love when boys get new shoes. I love Marc to bits and pieces and I would do anything for this guy. I will never understand his footwear decisions and habits. Marc owns a pair of Teva sandals. He loves these things. What's not to love? They're comfy, practical footwear! Marc has had this pair of sandals since high school (11 years he tells me) and wore them every single day of his senior year of high school. These things smell. They smell so bad that my mere wordsmithing on this blog can not do it justice. Anyway, he finally bought new Teva sandals this Spring (thank you Jesus). The old ones are still safely tucked away in the closet though (we can scare our future children with them or something).

Marc has a pair of slippers from L. L. Bean that he got for Christmas in 2008 - he loves them (they're warm and comfy) and he wore them pretty much every day (he even tried to wear them to the dance classes we took before our wedding, but  he was caught before we got too far from the house!) until about three weeks ago. He sent Tucker to fetch them and when he got them there was a small tooth hole in the one. We ordered him new slippers (typically we wouldn't do this for one small tooth hole, but as stated earlier...he wore them nearly everday...new ones were needed).

He also has a pair of green sneakers. He wears these sneakers for everything. Work. Church. Park Class. Lawn mowing. Our wedding. (completely kidding about that last one...I think...I wasn't really looking at his feet...). I was getting embarrassed when he'd wear these "things" to church. I know it's not about what's on the outside or that people could even see his feet while he's up on stage, but I knew he was wearing them. I knew that he looked spiffy and handsome all dressed up until you got to his feet where he resembled a homeless man. I made a statement. Marc we're buying you new green shoes. I don't care how much it costs we are buying you new ones and getting rid of those...things. We looked online - gadzooks! They didn't have his size in stock (universe why do you hate me?!). Marc knew I was serious so he checked the box to be notified via email when his size in the color he wanted were available. They came last week. They were too big (oh for the love of pete). They overnighted him a new pair. They fit (yay!). This picture doesn't quite do it justice:

My sweet, sweet husband now has new sandals, slippers, and sneakers to last him for another ten years...
