Tucker Turns Four

Tucker turned four on November 1 - a glimpse of the day through pictures:
Started the day out with a nap (on the couch, because it was his birthday)

An afternoon nap to recover from the morning nap...

 Frozen woofies to celebrate!

Singing happy birthday (patiently waiting for the song to end)

 Yum! Happy birthday buddy!

 Yumyumyumyumyum

 Opening up his present!

Getting a post-woofie drink of water while wearing his new blanket

The clean up crew (she got her own woofie, don't feel too bad)

All wrapped up in his new blanket ready for bed! It was a good day! We love you Tucky!

You might think this is a picture of Marc Pensyl as an infant, but it's just our adorable nephew Drayke. We can't wait to meet this little guy in person!

Rusty Containers

I have a lot going through my head at the moment, but I read this and it intrigued me:

“…All of us as human beings have fallen short…The church is made up of fallen people. The pure, clean water of spiritual truth is placed in rusty containers, and the subsequent failing of the church down through the centuries should not be projected onto the faith itself, as if the water had been the problem. It is no wonder that those who assess the truth and appeal of spiritual faith by the behavior of any particular church often find it impossible to imagine themselves joining up.”
-Francis Collins The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief

I don't want to be a rusty container that spoils Jesus. Makes me think how am I doing that and how I can not be rusty.

Two fun things:
1. A spot-on post about Lily and Tucker - let us know if you agree or not!
2. Our newest nephew Drayke, could not look anything more like his Uncle Marc (although Drayke's mom's Marci (Marc's sister) can probably take more of the credit...). At least we know what our future children will look like...

Introverts.

Found this article (thanks Chris!) and thought it was startingly accurate for the Pensyls. Read on and get to know us better:

Top ten myths about introverts

Myth #1 – Introverts don’t like to talk.
This is not true. Introverts just don’t talk unless they have something to say. They hate small talk. Get an introvert talking about something they are interested in, and they won’t shut up for days.

Myth #2 – Introverts are shy.
Shyness has nothing to do with being an Introvert. Introverts are not necessarily afraid of people. What they need is a reason to interact. They don’t interact for the sake of interacting. If you want to talk to an Introvert, just start talking. Don’t worry about being polite.

Myth #3 – Introverts are rude.
Introverts often don’t see a reason for beating around the bush with social pleasantries. They want everyone to just be real and honest. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable in most settings, so Introverts can feel a lot of pressure to fit in, which they find exhausting.

Myth #4 – Introverts don’t like people.
On the contrary, Introverts intensely value the few friends they have. They can count their close friends on one hand. If you are lucky enough for an introvert to consider you a friend, you probably have a loyal ally for life. Once you have earned their respect as being a person of substance, you’re in.

Myth #5 – Introverts don’t like to go out in public.
Nonsense. Introverts just don’t like to go out in public FOR AS LONG. They also like to avoid the complications that are involved in public activities. They take in data and experiences very quickly, and as a result, don’t need to be there for long to “get it.” They’re ready to go home, recharge, and process it all. In fact, recharging is absolutely crucial for Introverts.

Myth #6 – Introverts always want to be alone.
Introverts are perfectly comfortable with their own thoughts. They think a lot. They daydream. They like to have problems to work on, puzzles to solve. But they can also get incredibly lonely if they don’t have anyone to share their discoveries with. They crave an authentic and sincere connection with ONE PERSON at a time.

Myth #7 – Introverts are weird.
Introverts are often individualists. They don’t follow the crowd. They’d prefer to be valued for their novel ways of living. They think for themselves and because of that, they often challenge the norm. They don’t make most decisions based on what is popular or trendy.

Myth #8 – Introverts are aloof nerds. (<--um, this may be true for me...)
Introverts are people who primarily look inward, paying close attention to their thoughts and emotions. It’s not that they are incapable of paying attention to what is going on around them, it’s just that their inner world is much more stimulating and rewarding to them.

Myth #9 – Introverts don’t know how to relax and have fun.
Introverts typically relax at home or in nature, not in busy public places. Introverts are not thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. If there is too much talking and noise going on, they shut down. Their brains are too sensitive to the neurotransmitter called Dopamine. Introverts and Extroverts have different dominant neuro-pathways. Just look it up.

Myth #10 – Introverts can fix themselves and become Extroverts.
Introverts cannot “fix themselves” and deserve respect for their natural temperament and contributions to the human race. In fact, one study (Silverman, 1986) showed that the percentage of Introverts increases with IQ.

I'm taking this to mean that I am not an insensitive jerk, I am just introverted... So how about you? Are you introverted or extroverted?

Three.

Marc and I have some exciting news to share with you – we are in the process of adopting a little boy or girl from the Philippines! In about two years we’ll be a family of three! We don’t have much in the way of information to share with you yet, but wanted to share this wonderful news with you so you could enjoy this journey with us and be praying for us as we move down this path!

We’re aiming to complete our home study in November and have our dossier submitted to the Philippines by late January. The Philippines only accepts 10 dossiers per agency per year and our agency has already submitted their ten for this year so the goal is to have us be one of the first ones out the door in 2012! Right now we’re gathering every shred of information about us, filling out forms, and getting finger printed (for the bazillionth time – these government agencies should really just share information…), then once our dossier is submitted we wait for the Philippines to approve us and then to refer a child to us (that's an incredibly high level summary of the process...).

We're VERY excited about this adventure God has us on - talk about letting go and letting God!

"Once our eyes are opened we can't pretend we don't know what to do. God, who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls, knows that we know, and holds us responsible to act." Proverbs 24:12

Moths

They grow moths big in central PA. I have seriously never seen moths as big and hairy as the ones that show up at night time in central PA in mid-August. They dart around the light and dive bomb you as you try to get into the house after letting the dogs out at night. There's just mothing you can do about it. (did you see what I did there?)

It's always this mad dash to get all of us and the dogs in the house in one very fast movement so no moths get in the house. Last night was a close call because Lily is so long that the back 1/3 of her body almost didn't make in the door before it closed. Luckily Lily made it in and the moth stayed out. Thankfully she took a flying leap into the mudroom at the last minute or else this blost would be written very differently.

The Pensyls put in their window air conditioner on the last day of that heat wave in July, but there was these tiny little space that moths would fly in. About two weeks ago the bedroom was covered in creepy hairy moths so the air conditioner came out (since we had only used it like three times), we vacuumed up the moths and life has been relatively moth free since.

The other night there were two in the bathroom while I was getting washed up. I grabbed the nearest magazine and then we had two dead moths in the bathroom while I was washing up. I disposed of the corpses in the garbage can and went on with my life. The next night I was in the living room and Marc was back taking his shower - a short while later I notice Marc keeps walking from the mud room to the bedroom and back again. I finally ask him what's he's doing and he informed me that there was a moth in the bathroom so he opened up the window and took out the screen to let it fly free into the night, but when he did that another flew into the bathroom, so he put the screen back in and was carrying the moths from the bathroom outside to the back porch. I was so touched by his kind and caring heart that I didn't tell him I've just been killing them with the nearest object to me for the past few weeks. I don't want him to think less of me. I'm already the super insensitive one out of the two of us, I can't be adding fuel to the fire, you know?
